All the dire warnings! And now California is suing big oil! Pictures of fire burning in the distance ominously. Rhetorical and divisive political discourse. Gaslighting. The constant doomsday messaging is overwhelming. And what about the hypocrisy surrounding it? I find it hard to believe that most of the people pushing this message are actively avoiding the use of fossil fuels in their own lives. In fact, many of them actually benefit from the existence of fossil fuels.
However, there is another way to drive the agenda. I am intrigued by the innovation that comes from climate risk avoidance. Some of the products emerging from this movement, such as heat pumps, solar panels on roofs and over parking lots, and advancements in crop development, are truly impressive.
Perhaps we should take a different approach, focusing on the value proposition.
Once we create something better and more appealing to the general population, the economy will naturally shift. Take, for example, the Dodge Charger RT with its spewing tailpipes. Instead of simply criticizing it, let's create a faster, more fun and more environmentally-friendly alternative that also sounds great. And instead of complaining about gas-burning stoves, let's create a market for better countertop options.
At the end of the day, we are an economic nation. Value is either created or it is not. Embracing this curated alt-approach economy is the true way to advance any solution
